HVDC Forum for Wind Developers

HVDC ForumClean Line Energy hosted a High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Forum for wind generation developers in western Oklahoma, Kansas and the Texas Panhandle on September 9, 2010. We were able to present detailed information regarding the Plains & Eastern Clean Line and the Grain Belt Express Clean Line to more than 45 wind developers from over 20 different wind energy development companies. Topics covered include details on regulatory, permitting and design status of the project; comparison of direct current and alternating current technology; Southwest Power Pool as an exporter of wind energy; and optimizing transmission for HVDC projects. We hope this is the first of many meetings where we can share ideas and knowledge to ensure the future for wind power in the region.

Clean Line and Siemens HVDC Seminar

On June 29, 2010 Clean Line Energy and Siemens hosted a seminar with over 50 people in attendance in Memphis, Tennessee to discuss technical aspects of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) technology. Wayne Galli, Clean Line's Vice President of Transmission and Technical Services, and experts from Siemens HVDC group presented detailed technical information regarding the Plains & Eastern Clean Line. Participants discussed details on HVDC conversion with a focus on large scale converter stations, HVDC and alternating current (AC) system interactions, global installation of hybrid HVDC/AC systems, delivering bulk wind energy to load, dispatch and power flow control. The audience included professionals who work in system planning and operations, as well as protection engineers and managers.
