Wind Integration Studies

How did WE assess how the variability of added wind from the Plains & Eastern Clean Line will impact Tennessee Valley Authority's operation?

AWS TruePower, LLC (AWS) released two independent reports on how the variability of added wind from the Plains & Eastern Clean Line will impact TVA's operation. In the report, AWS examines the coincidence of simulated wind power output with regional load in the southeast.  In order to perform this analysis, load data was acquired from TVA and generation was established using AWS's windTrend® database. The principal conclusions showed that coincidence of the wind generation with the load in the southeast is not strong, yet the impact of integrating wind is mitigated by load variability.  Therefore the impacts of the Plains & Eastern Clean Line are considered manageable and within expected bounds based on studies of other utility systems.  Read the full report here.
